Homestead Exemption

Homestead Exemption

A homestead exemption is a tax break to which a property owner may be entitled if he or she owns and occupies a single-family residence on the first day of the tax year for which they are applying. Applications for Homestead Exemption may be submitted at any time during the year but must be received by December 31 to apply the following year.

Homestead Exemptions, as described in Section 40-9-19 of the Code of Alabama, are available to all Alabama citizens who own and occupy single-family residences, including mobile homes, and use this property for no other purpose. In Blount County, the regular homestead exemption is up to $58.
